Adobe Experience Manager

Adobe Experience Manager, also known as AEM, is part of Adobe’s Marketing Cloud suite of products. apto specialise in providing services in AEM

Adobe Experience Manager - AEM is the core of a powerful platform that manages all digital customer experiences.  It is an Enterprise Class Web Content Management system that is used for building and managing websites, digital assets, mobile apps and forms. As your organisation’s web presence builds in complexity, the ability to manage a range of assets becomes more critical.  To provide that capability cost effectively across multiple digital channels is a continual challenge that AEM is uniquely placed to help you with; it scales with the complexity and volume of your web applications.

apto's niche is in complex customer processes, transactional forms and processes e.g tax services, mutli lingual and lanaguage financial services and processes, document correspondence (letters, emails) and so on.   AEM supports the entire digital customer experience with your organisation, and utilises Marketing Cloud components to extend your reach to new and existing customers.

Adobe Experience Management Components

The problem of how to ensure consistent presentation of brand values online, critical to user acceptance and perceptions of quality, has to be solved without sacrificing functionality and complexity.

AEM has excellent capabilities for the creation and management of multiple, high functionality websites. It is concentrated on this specific problem – managing a complex web presence efficiently, whilst preserving consistency. By complex we mean sites with lots of functionality, probably with many content authors and multiple sites with common content – for example addressing multiple language requirements.

The three features that particularly lend themselves to this issue are the templating functionality Content Fluidity and the Multisite Manager.

Control of the use of digital assets is a critical capability for ensuring brand integrity. Achieving this without layers of administration and the associated costs is one of AEMs great strengths. Tools are provided for the management of a range of asset types, including simple, compound, video or 3D. Assets can be Content Fragments - content that is independent of a page and can therefore be leveraged in any channel.

AEM Assets are given metadata, organised into Collections (they can be static or search based – “Smart collections”) which are then shared with different levels of privilege, including viewing, editing etc.

Adobe are the leading vendor of creative tools for the digital age – the Creative Suite is almost ubiquitous. These products are integrated with AEMs Digital Asset Management toolset to combine productivity in asset creation with control at the Enterprise level.

There are three broad approaches to managing mobile accessible content in AEM.

Firstly, all AEM Sites can be made fully responsive to the constraints of the device that is being used to view them using Media Queries in the CSS file for the page. Fluid Grids such as Bootstrap are used to determine the way the content elements flow in the screen sizes targeted.

Secondly, it is of course possible to create sites that are specifically for mobile devices; in practice this is likely to be a simple variant, with a reduced range of target devices.

Thirdly AEM provides the toolset to build mobile applications, in part through its integration with PhoneGap. Apps created using this method are pre-configured to be able to use Content Sync, an excellent way to provide mobile users with content that can be accessed offline. An App configured to use Content Sync can downloaded pre-packaged web content and display it in a way that simulates the way a Browser would download content from a site.

AEM Forms is an easy to use solution to a problem common to most large organisations, particular those in Government or Financial Services: how do we cost-effectively manage the great volume of transactions that are started with a form, and often conclude with a document being published from a template?

Bespoke electronic form implementations often prove difficult to keep up to date, both with the needs of the business and the demands of technology; customer correspondence remains bespoke, in spite of productivity and quality control issues, because it is too complex a problem to address.

AEM forms addresses all of these problems and more with a single product. Adaptive HTML5 forms, PDF and Mobile Apps are all created and managed in the same environment. Correspondence as well as more structured Output Management are there too. All these data input and output processes can be integrated with the built in Business Process Management tools.

Apto Solutions has long focussed on Adobe forms technology and we have a practice dedicated to AEM Forms implementation.

AEM Communities enables the development of a relationship with site visitors that informs through blogs, Q&A, and event calendars, while gaining insights through forums, comments, and other community content, often referred to as user generated content (UGC).

Further, AEM Communities allows moderation by trusted members in the publish environment, social login with Twitter and Facebook, inline translation of community content, creation of community groups from the published community site, scoring to award badges, file sharing, notifications and activity streams.
